This poor child NEEDS a mother, she doesn't need to be one! I agree. And I feel sorry for her, too. Regarding Elian's needs, I think the glass is half full. When he was first fished out of the ocean, I would think that the most important thing would have been to be cuddled and loved and not feel lost and alone. I'll bet she did a good job of that. As his needs became more complex, well, that's another story. Karen

My impression all along was the relatives wanted to talk to the father and convince him to stay and raise Elian in America. Unfortunately, for the boy, it looks like politics got in the way of that potentially happening. My sadness lies with the boy who will now be brainwashed into becoming a marxist communist follower of Castro. His special program of re-indoctrination will undoubtedly be thorough. I can just see one of the lessons now. Teacher in front of a class of hungry children... Who here believes in God? (no one raises their hand) Ok, well just in case let's do a test. I want everyone to close their eyes and pray for God to give you an apple this morning. Nothing appears...Ok, now I want all of you to close your eyes and pray to our great leader Castro for an apple. (A box is brought into the room). See children your apple is hear. Hail to our great and wonderful leader Castro! Hail! End of lesson class, now let's go work in the tobacco fields and think how wonderful it is to work for such a great leader as Fidel Castro. Michael
