No, I would not have picked Elian up in person, not out of fear, but because as Attorney General I would have waited and granted more time, and also might have let the court system work it out as much as possible. All the evidence points to the fact that Elian was not missing his father all that much, and was relatively happy where he was except for the noise of the crowd at times, so there was no need to use violence and rush to judgement on this case, other than fear of Fidel Castro for which I have none, or fear of the polls, for which I also have none. When one starts to fear what a dictator may do to you, your family or your country, you have already lost your freedom and are on the proverbial road to hell. Yogi
