Bambs,
There is nothing wrong with making money by being short. It's the Daytrading Ed is attacking. Although I am a long-term investor I did short Amazon awhile back and made 30-40 points before I covered, not 1/16 of a point. I shorted because I saw the stock as fundamentally WAY overvalued at that time.
And attacking long-term folks for not selling out at top. My gut feeling was to sell Jan 1 when Naz was at 4K expecting 3K but did not do it because many gains were short term and I'm in 41% bracket. So I prepared for the hit. Then Naz 5K came and I blew it. Should of sold out then perhaps. But strange thing, I'm down 10% for year while Naz down 22% and I have no tax obligations. It aint the end of the world. And Naz will be 4000+ by the end of the year. And CSCO will be 75.
