<....that stupid beagle....>

I don't handle beagles well. First dog i remember was a beagle pup. We lived in lower Boondocks where Pappy was evangelizing the sinners. Parsonage had a pumphouse.

The new puppy kept running off so Pappy tied him in the pumphouse at night with a rope. One morning I went out to turn him loose and somehow the rope had become tangled and strangled the dog. I musta' been seven or eight.

Ol man took the carcass out behind the barn, dug a hole and unceremoniously dumped my dog and made me cover him up. First experience with death, shame it wasn't the last.

Beagles ain't the sharpest knife in the box.
