Your link encapsulates nicely the whole sordid business. I had forgotten what an intriguing a character Liccio Gelli is. I wouldn't say the papacy of Karol Wojtyla is a u-turn. After all, he took the name John Paul II, and continues the work of the post Vatican II popes. You think he's reactionary? What is he reacting to? Traditionalists are upset with him because he continues to preside over the auto-destruction of the Church without doing much about it.
