Ike, the declining Rand means the Rand gold price is rising. you can look at it as a decline in costs as well, it's just a PoV question. my experience is that once the Rand gold price rises significantly, the JSE All Gold Index usually plays catch-up between 4-8 weeks later.
currently the Zimbabwe situation has a negative effect on sentiment. however, i believe the concerns are unfounded...Mugabe's days as the dictator of Zimbabwe are probably numbered, and SA is not Zimbabwe...big difference.
