Starting in October of 1998 when the NASDAQ started on an
upward course, the performance can be "compartmentalized"
fairly well by dividing the intervening time until today
into three intervals. These intervals are shown in the table
below. Shown beside the dates are the values of the semi-
equip group sum, the NASDAQ value on that date, and the
SOX-X value on that date. Then the change in percentage
over those values are computed and shown. During these 3
periods, there has been good correlation between the 3
averages in terms of being "in sync", ie, while the
multiplying factor of positive and negative may be
different, at least they are all going in the same
direction. Prior to October 1998, this was not always the
case.
