The groundwork is being laid for a "Microsoft of the News Media..." I just hope someone like Rupert Murdock will be in the final running, and that there will be at least two OPPOSING editorial slants when all is said and done.

Regulators Eye Changing Media Rules

WASHINGTON ?? The Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday proposed relaxing some media ownership rules, including a ban on one entity controlling two networks and a restriction against one company owning a broadcast station and daily newspaper in the same market.

A 1996 telecommunications law required the FCC to periodically review ownership rules in light of greater competition and other changes in the industry. A report released Tuesday lays out proposed modifications but will require the commission to thoroughly examine each item before any changes are voted on.
