Hi mighty,

Hi DN, since you are not quite satisfied with the answer, here is the CDG white paper regarding DS and MC
mode.

Actually, I am quite satisfied. The weather is nice, the sun is shinning <vbg>.

I was posting excerpts from an IEEE white paper. It does an excellent job of explaining the design motivations behind the development of WCDMA as well as CDMA2000. It is also a neutral source for information, ie, as far as I can tell it wasn't sponsored by any wireless industry association.

My point in all of this is that the two protocols were developed with very specific, but different, design goals in mind. How that translates into acceptance in the marketplace will be determined soon. My post was not a solicitation to debate the finer technical points of the two protocols.

In the end, the Q will win since 3G CDMA is the ultimate goal. IMO 3G CDMA will happen sooner rather than later, as GPRS and EDGE prove to be inadequate to meet the future (overwhelming) needs of wireless data users.

Regards,

DN
