.BAT file(s) ...

The easiest way to put the stuff from my post into a .BAT file is to open NotePad, Cut & Baste, and save with a .BAT extension. (You'll need to set File Type to [All] *.* first.)

with cleanup1.bat ... the dos window says that only temp is created and not cookies or temp int files

When Windows starts, it creates the temporary stuff it needs. Getting rid of stale cookies is one of the goals of Cleanup.BAT, so their disappearance is desired and expected.

after the erase c:win386.swp command, i see an 'access denied'

Windows 'locks' the files it needs. If you run Cleanup from a window, access is denied and the file(s) left intact. I run Cleanup only after (re)booting to DOS (Usually DOS Safe Mode), so this file gets erased. Again, if it's missing, Windows creates a fresh swap file and (empty) index files at boot time.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Once you create a .BAT file, right click it, select properties and choose appropriate settings. I try to pick a helpful new icon while I'm at it too.
