jw, the 533a/950 sounds like a lot of bang for a buck. No, I never did get w2k installed -sniff- . The heartbreak has eased with time, however. Gonna grind it out with 98 'til I'm good and ready to make the jump to a newer mobo (which I think is the problem with w2k). Had another HDD catastrophe recently (these things just do not like me). Not sure what my transgression was. It's a fairly new, very zippy, Maxtor 27G. I had just added a logical partition, by using fdisk running the DOS console from Windows. I did a restart to make the changes take effect by rebooting with the shift key held down. This skips the bios part of the reboot. When I was back up and the new partition was showing in My Computer, I started doing a large file transfer to the new partition. About halfway through, the transfer stopped and told me that a file it was trying to read was inaccessible. I thought, "huh", and rebooted again with the shift key. When it came back up, 3 of my partitions were gone including the new one. Plus, an assortment of remaining folders in one partition were full of corrupted files -- they had weird symbols for names and would not open. These computers are finicky. Don't do anything unorthodox unless you have valuable stuff backed up and some time available for screwing around. That's my new rule. Good luck with the DSL. We've got both RoadRunner and Frontier/Global Crossing DSL in my town. I had RR for a good while and while it was great for the first few months, it gradually deteriorated. So, when DSL came to town I tried it out and realized just how much my cable service had declined. The DSL is really great, although the last few days I've been getting cut off every once in a while and it takes 5 or 10 minutes to get back on. Don't know yet what is up with this. Best to you on this Memorial Day weekend, wily
