a while ago something extremely funky happened with my system and i had to blow everything away and start from scratch. after spending hours installing the OS, drivers, and basic software, the problem arose again. thank the software gods for symantec ghost. i repeated the install and made periodic images. i finally found the problem to be my creative soundblaster live drivers (has anyone else found that the drivers that ship with the hardware are just crap? is it just me?).

what a difference making a backup image makes. restoring a system from an image takes me about 20 mins vs. 3+ hours of installation. i now backup my system every couple of weeks to a drive i have designated for a backup image. i also do them before i install any new software.
