Karen,

I truly am saddened by your story. It is difficult to describe the importance of a family to someone who unfortunately does not have one. The best I can describe it is that A Family is THERE.

There are a million good things that a mother or a brother or a daughter or grandmother will do for you during your lifetime. Unfortunately, most of us take these million things for granted. It is only when we lose our family that we truly appreciate its importance.

Vince

Ok, i guess we do come at it differently then ... for me the family bond is quite gut level, it starts before all law ... quality law should imho be based on it, and to the extent that law is not based on it, it must supersede law. This may be part personal, part cultural, difference between us.

"the friendships and alliances you forge through honor with people who are under no obligation to accept you."

Yes, i know what you mean ... and agree to an extent ... they say 'don't do business with family' and they're right ... i do, but i also make sure to keep ventures small and short-term ... much more relaxed with non-family friends in some ways, both in business and in social life ... the two classes are equally important to me, in different ways ... we really are products of our experiences, aren't we ... cheers
