Warning, on topic yes, but Babble Time - Good versus Evil Battle.

Little Joe,

Do not take my comments as a lecture
or I pointing out a mistake you made.

A prior post by you which I copied below
shows quite clearly that you have excellent
thoughts and ability to collect information
and ask correct questions or comments.

So I am confused by your reply as it does not
reflect your depth of insight into the view
of what is available for an understanding.

<<Problem is this has been going on
for a long time. A fellow named Holt
was putting out a newsletter 20 yrs. ago
saying the same thing. I am still waiting.
When something appears so evident
and it doesn't occur. You need to reexamine
the evidence. Live long and prosper, Little joe>>

My comments are as follows,
but they only question your questions,
and to me a full investigation requires
a reading of all the works of Ayn Rand
to obtain what is needed to view the
connections between what can appear
as a scrambled zillion pieces of a
zig saw puzzle of lifes events like
those talked about in the article Alex
posted a url to.

So when you say

<<... appears so evident and it doesn't occur.
You need to reexamine the evidence.>>

its as if you are having a
"Ron Reece Moment" (RRM)
which is not to be confused with the
"Ron Reece Syndrome" (RRS)
as RRS causes a continuous RRM to occur.

To me you have to identify
the "what" of the <<so evident>>
and unlike the USA President ClinSin
feeding mushroom food to USA citizens
with his "...depends what "is" is.."
you have to seriously identify as seperate
the "it" in <<and it doesn't occur>>
as what was evident
and it did not occur
are two completely different paths to view.

Based on this, you statement of
<<...need to reexamine the evidence.>>
is exactually what the evil part of
the battle "Good versus Evil" wants you
to obtain as a conclusion.

To me there is no confusion,
and what you observed did occur
and what you did not observe
did not void out what did occur,
but the words spoken by you does
result in that conclusion,
and the additional action to do
the work that evil wants you to do,
being to work against your beliefs
as you will believe yourself more easly
than that of the "other side."

You are good, but there was a whole lot more going on in those countries besides suppression of a free press. Also, the question raised was not is not whether or not businesses did well, but much broader. It is simply this, if the government takes 90% of my wages, profits, etc. but lets me criticize it am I more free than if the government lets me keep 90% of my wages, profits, etc, but represses criticism. The point I make is that I question the notion that freedom of the press is more important than the freedom to keep the fruits of your labor.
In the dictatorships you describe certain businessmen because of connections, etc. did well and many others did not.
Also there is more to a dictatorship than repression of the press, although I will admit almost all, if not all, dictatorships do repress the press.
But if we assume two countries exactly alike, but in one country taxes are confiscatory and the press is free, while in the other taxes are minimal and the press is not free, I am not prepared to say the the country with the free press is more free than the country with the confiscatory taxes.
Live long and prosper,
little joe
