Dan,

Since I am an option trader, the opportunities for me during a bear market will still be there. For the savvy stock investor there will be some opportunities as you mentioned. But for the average investor who will ride out the bear market or sell at the bottom will have to wait until the market fully recovers, so for them there is not alot.

When adjusted for inflation- the Bear market of the 70's lasted 16 years, and was much worse than the pure numbers suggest. We exceeded the inflation-adjusted 1966 top just a few years ago-
