I wouldn't have wanted anything so formal or exclusive.

The thread organically grew into something cool without any rules (save those we intuited.) There was a certain quickslilver quality to it. It changed--everything changes--too bad it was for the worse.

That's life.

There are all sorts of threads that are exclusive now- you can be booted off the "moderated" threads. This thread is not moderated in that sense.

I don't know that there is a majority "wish" here. I have my own personal wishes but I wouldn't ascribe them to anyone else. I think two and three years ago there was much more a "majority" wish than there is NOW, but that was because this thread was semi-moderated by it's creator Christine. Now that she has gone off to pursue other interests no one really speaks for this thread. It's just a place where people show up and do what they do, individually or in small clan groups.

And what on earth do you mean by "willing to accept"? Anyone can post here- the acceptance of anyone here doesn't matter a jot. Unless you need people to accept your ideas and you can't brook disagreement. I think you mean you want to post and not have anyone stridently argue in opposition. Well I think many people would like that kind of pulpit but this isn't it. This is a different kind of place where you can pretty much EXPECT some people to always disagree with you- but that is often very very interesting. MUCH more interesting than hanging out with yes people. You COULD start your own moderated thread- and if you don't like what people say you could then kick them off your thread. Just a helpful suggestion.

There is no CORE group--- that's just something people say when they feel rejected in some way. I think it's a natural reaction to see people disagreeing or discussing things as being "aligned" against you as a newcomer. I know I have felt it on other threads and usually am hesitant in a new place until I feel more comfortable with the unwritten rules of behavior every thread has.

The only original poster here is me, I think, (exclusive club of one!!) with X, LLR and Del following soon after...unless DEl got here the same time as I- I don't remember. All of us have argued and disagreed with each other plenty over the last four years.

What changed - at least in my eyes-- was that the marauding group came in and began hurling insults right and left, sort of like jla's posts this weekend. IF there is no content, no ideas, then it can only be destructive. And it invites reciprocation. Why wouldn't it?

But the accusation of cliquishness or exclusivity is without merit, and indeed, posters who enjoy discussing issues and are either very diplomatic or else thickskinned, usually wind up staying.
Then they can get called CORE too.
