Do you know the basis of the Nortel suit against ONI?

Nortel has sued ONI for patent infringement. They allege that ONI has copied Nortel's optical transport system. The fact that ONI has recruited many of Nortel's optical engineers and the fact that ONIs transport system closely resembles Nortels adds credibility to this allegation. If Juniper buys ONI, they seem to inherit the lawsuit.

But they sure as Hell didn't get there on their technical merits.

Nortel acquired its lead in metro DWDM when they purchased Cambrian Systems from Newbridge for $300 million in 1998 - a great bargain. Lucent could have done the same thing but they were too busy suing Newbridge for patent infringement. <g>
