Taiwan Urges Institutional Investors to Buy Stocks, Paper Says


Taipei, May 30 (Bloomberg) -- Taiwan's Securities and Futures Commission yesterday phoned mutual fund Companies and proprietary trading desks at securities firms in an effort to stem selling in the stock market, the Economic Daily News reported, citing unidentified people in the securities industry. The commission urged the companies to be net buyers today and tomorrow, and asked them to fax summaries of their daily trading activity, the paper said.

Mutual funds yesterday were net buyers of NT$2.48 billion ($81 million) in Taiwan stocks.

Some here have noted some of the leveraged ProFunds may not have met their goal so well. I checked and in case someone's interested Rydex now has their 2beta funds up a running. I think the website is rydexfunds.com. Don't know if the online brokers have picked up the new funds yet
