Re: How strong was the rumor, and have you heard anything since? Did you hear rumor first or scond hand?

Harry,

Let's try 20th hand. I wouldn't make much of it.

Do you have any internal knowledge that their claims are correct?

The reason I ask is that Kevin and Kash and others have dismissed the claims in the german article

I'm low on the totem pole, they don't tell me sh*t. There are chip design teams at my site, so I do get to talk to engineers sometimes. My experience with engineers is they are a strange breed. They have very in depth knowledge of a very specific task, but are oblivious to what's going on around them. A good example is a friend of mine works on the S80 handling all sorts of different tasks. Up until about 3 weeks ago she didn't even know she worked on the S80 until I pointed it to her. She just knows SKU numbers of parts.

I've had some in depth conversations about DRDRAM, Athlon, and the paper Hans wrote. So far I just leave more confused about my findings. Nothing worth posting here.

rumors, what is your take? True or false?

I think AMD might be a subject of talk at IBM because they are jumping on the copper bandwagon also. We've gambled billions on copper so it would only make sense to support AMD's efforts. Only a short time ago people were calling it crazy to spend billions on copper. As far as the rumor- I have no comment, let's wait until the 5th. With as big a company as IBM is, at any given time, there's a good 5-10 rumors going around.

I'm completely sold on copper. It's good for both AMD and IBM.
