Does your local telco offer *69? Here in the states punching this sequence will call the number which last called your telephone. We in the states also have available a feature named caller ID. Either of these might have alerted you to the identy of the calling party.

As far as Windoze 2000 goes, I suspect that the CIA and NSA have placed many hooks in it so they can easily access your and everyone elses data without needing to appear in 3-space. Suspect they could do all sorts of things to remote computers such as light off your floppy drive, or worse. If you have a webcam attached, watch out, they could then read your Graviton Spin Reversal papers as well.
