Semiconductor Shares Are Best Buys Among Technology, Berry Says

New York, May 28 (Bloomberg) -- Semiconductor shares are the best value among computer and communication-related shares, according to Ron Berry, co-portfolio manager of the RS Information Age Fund, the New York Times reported in its ''Market Insight'' interview column. Berry cited rising earnings estimates and a ''huge'' supply shortage for computer chips, and said Xilinx Inc., Intel Corp. and Applied Materials Inc. are the fund's biggest semiconductor holdings. While generally leery of Internet companies, Berry said the fund recently bought shares of BroadVision Inc. and Ariba Inc., both of which are down at least 60 percent in the past two months, the Times said.

The Philadelphia Stock Exchange Semiconductor Index has lost a third of its value since March 10, but remains up 29 percent for the year. (NYT 5/21 Section 3, 7) (For the Web site of the New York Times, type {NYTI .})
