Some notes from the Chase H&Q Technology Conference- EMC is mainly considered a hardware company, but now is committing 75% of it's R&D to software. According to which source you believe, either CA or EMC is in first place for selling storage management software. Adoption of SAN is in it's early stages- one participant said it was where networking was 10 years ago. SAN will always be a bit more expensive (more parts) than simpler systems, but offers more availability and manageability so should be worth a premium.
