I'm new to this board and I hope you don't mind my adding my two cents. I have Newbridge shares in my RRSP and TD Waterhouse Canada told me that as long as I hold these "Exchangeable shares" I presume these to be AT.TO, they will be considered Canadian content. Only when I exchange them to Alcatel shares will the foreign content rules apply. Therefore if they represent more then the allowable 20% one would exchange and sell in the same day. TD said that this can be done.

Hope this helps.

They are right, my understanding is you have 2 years to clear it from your RRSP without incurring a penalty, that's long enough to make a few bucks and then just reduce it to the allowable foreign investment.
