CBS MarketWatch Columns Updated: 5/30/2000 2:52:44 PM ET Shares rose 4 to 37 in recent trading. The company (WIND: news, msgs) develops and markets software operating systems and development tools for embedded computers placed in other devices such as alarm clocks or automobiles. "The first quarter is really just the quarter following all of the company's acquisitions," said Shayna Malnak, senior analyst at Williams Capital Group. "So, I don't believe the first-quarter will paint the clearest picture going forward." Malnak expects a first-quarter profit of 8 cents a share, excluding deferred compensation and amortization charges. The analyst expects operating margins of 3.8 percent but said by the fourth quarter she expects that number to hit 17.6 percent. Analysts polled by First Call also expect a a profit of 8 cents. Malnak sees promise in the announcement that Wind River will join Intel's Applied Computing Platform Provider (ACPP) Program as one of its first software participants. Malnak rates the stock a "buy" with a 12-month price target of $55 a share. Regards Neil
