The recent history of the thread can be summarized pretty easily, and centers on me. Many months ago, Michael Cummings invited me to participate in DAR, which I did. Two people on the thread took a particular dislike to me, and were exceptionally rude on one occasion. Not liking to fight on DAR, I tried being conciliatory, but that was a bust. Most of the DAR regulars PMd me begging me to pardon one of the people involved, and to continue to treat her nicely. I did so, but found the unwillingness of anyone to publicly call her on her behavior offensive in the end, and left the thread. Some of my friends, who know that I am generally non- confrontational, wanted to go over to DAR and ream the offenders, but I held them off.......

I lurked on DAR and Feelies for awhile, every so often did something on Feelies, but did not come on as a regular. Finally, I got tired of the way that people condescended to Michael Cummings, and sometimes worse, when he was not a nagging sort of Evangelical, and decided to come on as a regular. Although the tone varied from day to day, the person who had run me off of DAR remained somewhat hostile on Feelies, and some of her friends joined in. Additionally, there was a cliquishness which could be cloying. However, I had PMs from some regulars that were encouraging, and the help of a couple of people who were new or returning to balance things out. Occasionally, I still had to beg some friends to stay off, when they were angry at the way I or Michael had been treated.......

Finally, there was a big brouhaha about Reagan, that inevitably attracted a couple of friends from other threads. In the course of reproving one of them for excessively harsh language, I admitted that I was angry at the party insulted myself. Suddenly, everyone decided to beat up on me. Well, after that, I stopped trying to restrain my friends from participating. Although I do not always approve of their posts, I am often in agreement, and merely consider them tactless.......

After people like jla and e-Bill came on, and started to fight back where I would let things slide, a ridiculous theory was floated that I was "behind" them, although polite myself. They are, in fact, free agents, but on this theory, the one who first ran me off of DAR became more and more irrational, along with some friends, and finally caused terrible rows on the thread, until giving up and employing the Ignore function......

From my point of view, than, the primary fault lies elsewhere than with someone like jla.......
