TL FRANCE SELECTS ALCATEL'S END-TO-END SOLUTION TO ENTER FRENCH
MARKET
Paris, 30 May 2000 - NTL France, the French subsidiary of Europe's largest cable-operator for
multiservices, has signed a contract with Alcatel to develop a global telecom network in the French
regions of Ile-de-France and Provence-Alpes-C“te d'Azur. Alcatel's turnkey solution will provide
NTL France with both telephony services and high speed Internet access for their residential and
business customers. The network is expected to be ready for commercial roll out during the 4th
quarter of 2000.

Alcatel's end-to-end solution is based on Alcatel 1000 MM switching systems, Alcatel Litespan
multiservice wireline access nodes and an SDH transmission network. This transmission network
which utlises Alcatel Optinex muliservice nodes, will enable ntl France to transport IP, ATM and
SDH traffic on a single layer. Alcatel's network will feature open interfaces and will be managed by
a high-performance integrated network management system. Its flexibility to provide both
narrowband and broadband as well as its capability to bring XDSL technology to the end-user
doorstep, will enable NTL France to adapt its offering to the subscribers' demand in a cost effective
manner.

Bernard Touraine, managing director of NTL France, declared: "By selecting Alcatel, we meet
our customers' request for a a clear and competitive offering in telephony as well as
for high-speed Internet access. Alcatel will be a major partner in the development of
our local loop and in our penetration of the French market."
