Intel has explained that their customers have a certain expectation for price points, so as higher speed grades come into the market and lower speeds go down to the mainstream, they adjust the prices to reflect the market segment of the PC.

IMHO, recent Intel price cuts have been more modest and infrequent than I ever remember. A good thing for both companies.

I am not familiar with the extent of Intel's past price cuts so I will take your word that this cut is fairly minor. However from the complaints that have been registered publicly, I think most of Intel's customers would be happy to get chips at any price.
