Qualcomm Inevitability Day They can torment it, they can abuse it, they can kick, . . . . After today, I think a lot of people are really scared to sell Qualcomm. More and more people realize now that ALL roads to the wireless future lead through Qualcomm Inc. The ambiguity is beginning to dissipate. We are in a tricky time frame now, though. We have to get to late July and that earnings statement and conference call. I think that day will be a huge wake-up call to EVERYONE. We just have to get to that day alive. Qualcomm adversaries began their poking and jabbing right after the last earnings announcement, realizing they had a three-month window. The window slams shut in late July. But help was on the way. David Heger, an analyst with AG Edwards, raised his rating on Qualcomm to buy from accumulate. Heger's recommendation is based on eventual success of CDMA in the third generation of mobile wireless networks. Heger, who has a $120 price target on the stock, said Qualcomm is "uniquely positioned to benefit" from the ascendance of third-generation CDMA.ÿ "We believe that because of its strong patent portfolio and experience with CDMA chipsets, Qualcomm will receive royalties on ALL 3G (third-generation) infrastructure and handsets and will remain the dominant supplier of CDMA chipsets," Heger said in a midday research note.
