"QCOM is 3G.

Currently, QCOM is the best way to capitalize trends in the CDMA2000 (cdmaOne) and WCDMA (GSM) upgrades to a common CDMA air interface. Since the installed base of GSM is much larger than cdmaOne, it would be in QCOM's best interest to dominate the ASIC market for WCMDA as well.
Unfortunately, the market is pricing QCOM like WCDMA would actually be a negative for QCOM. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everyone agrees that QCOM is going to be paid royalties. There are some co's like NOK who have not negotiated a specific rate.

WCDMA is a direct positive for QCOM. I am absolutely certain that the royalties from WCMDA will have a positive impact on QCOM's EPS growth rate for the next five years as some 250 million to 500 million GSM customers are upgraded to WCDMA systems in Europe and China and the US."
