i think higher energy prices are here to stay, unless we get a collapse in demand due to a recession. specifically gasoline stocks are so low and declining so fast, that current refinery capacity would need to be utilized at a 98% rate just to keep them even during the summer driving season. that's pretty much impossible, as involuntary refinery shutdowns have been exploding this year. at times whole refineries have exploded in fact. i still think that there are lingering y2k related problems at virtually every stage of the fossil fuel production and refining stage, and that the industry is just keeping a lid on this fact out of litigation fears.
we're probably on the cusp of a 'mini' energy crisis, something almost no-one has acknowledged yet. but i guess these price charts speak for themselves...
