i know...we're now running on virtual energy. actually in inflation adjusted terms current energy prices are still relatively low. which means they may have a lot more upside potential left in them. all this talk about how energy is a much smaller part of the economy than in the 70's is actually nonsense, as it is based on this inflation-adjusted view. in today's dollars a barrel of crude was $72 in '74. if it were to go back to that price, it would quickly become a much larger part of the economy once more.
