DJIA P/E ratio: 20.4; earnings $502.67 - dividend yield 1.6%
S&P 500 P/E ratio: 27.0; earnings $50.98 - dividend yield 1.2%

Not sure about long term averages, but I think a P/E of 14
is the number I've seen thrown around for the SPX. I
believe the Long Term DJI avg. P/E is a little lower,
around 11 or 12.

You might want to go back and read my post again. My 'absurd' reference was to a 90% drop in the market and not to the DOW below 7000. For the DOW to drop 90%, we would be looking at the DOW below 2000. That's not going to happen, at least in my opinion.
