Mika - Maybe nobody promised those rates, but why would anybody invest in such a system - particularly when something like HDR is available that gets you to 384 kbs/. Ok maybe only 144 or 200 to start, but does it make any sense to spend a lot of money to increase from 9.6 kbps to 13 kbps? The whole GSM data upgrade path really seems ridiculous based on this.

Hello Mika Kukkanen,

Who promised those bit rates? The answer is nobody.

Actually NOKIA states it on their web site. I believe the article states that as well.

GPRS brings true packet data connectivity to the GSM market, paving the way for the next generation of Personal Multimedia services. GPRS integrates GSM and Internet Protocol (IP) technologies, adding convenience and immediacy to mobile data services. With peak data rates of over 100 kbit/s, GPRS offers instant packet-switched data connections to data networks, such as the Internet, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and corporate intranets. And all via GSM technology.

Hope this helps.

Thank You

JK

GSM at 9.6kbps (wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, downloading the porn was a bit frustrating though ;-)

Since porn is one of the most popular uses of the internet, your experience demonstrates exactly why 1x and HDR will be in high demand. <g>
