Dr. Andrew J. Viterbi joins Witcom Wireless Telecommunications' Board of Advisors and investment group

TEL-AVIV, Israel, May 31, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Witcom Ltd., a designer, developer and manufacturer of radio-based digital networking solutions for the worldwide telecommunications and data communications market, today announced that Dr. Andrew J. Viterbi has joined Witcom's Board of Advisors and investment group.

Dr. Viterbi has agreed to lead the Advisory Board for the company and has invested in the company. He will contribute to the company's technology management and technology development.

Dr. Andrew J. Viterbi is a world-renowned expert in digital communication theory. All four international standards for digital cellular telephony use his algorithm (the Viterbi Algorithm) for interference suppression. This is also the case with most digital satellite communications systems.

Dr. Viterbi is a co-founder of QUALCOMM Incorporated and until recently served as Vice Chairman. He is also a member of both the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Sciences.

IS-95 B offers 64 k right now in Japan.

1X will be faster - around 114 k if I remember correctly.

So CDMAOne is ahead of GPRS already. 1xMC will roughly double that.

GPRS is no competition in the speed race at all. Its only advantage is that it is the only "upgrade" GSMers have available. Sad.
