dave- Maybe a better way to say, 'short-sightedness is good in the SP world,' would be to say, it's the path of least expense with virtually guaranteed results. DSL and HFC are definitely here and now technologies. It's very cheap compared to anything even approaching FTTH. So if all residential customers want to pay is $40/month, then they will get the interim solution. Which by the way, I believe will be a 5-10 year revenue stream for the SPs rolling it out.

Don't get me wrong, we all know here on the Last Mile that it's only a bandaid in the long run. But it's a heck of a band-aid because it will be generating billions of 'interim' revenues for the SPs.
