What about the rest of the post? On reading passages such as that one, can you understand how X might feel about the God depicted? Or the God that didn't bat an eyelash at Hagar's being driven into the wilderness when Sarah finally had Isaac?

There are lots of passages that give a reader a good deal of pause.

You and I may have faith in a loving God, a faith that enables us to put these images aside. Many people do not.
