No, you are wrong. You fail on many counts.

Ambrose's research is considered the best and since Summersby's allegation had no corroboration, was made against against dead man by, in effect, a dead woman, it must be discounted.

I suspect it was done that way so she couldn't be interviewed. Let's face it, w/o that allegation the book wouldn't sell. And since Summersby was dead, there was no way to tell those were even her words.
