There will be CDMA in China if it wants 3G, as WCDMA is CDMA. If China plays the stalling game with
Europe and builds out GSM now, they will only have to start over with (W)CDMA infastructure later.
Remember, IJ states there is NO GSM to WCDMA upgrade. No one knows WCDMA better than QCOM.
No superior intellegence is to be found in WCDMA modifications. There is nothing revolutionary or
groundbreaking.

(W)CDMA is a political modification. There is no new science.

w molloy, the sum of information on the topic is zero, offset, a wash. The most believable thing I've seen in print is that Unicom has 5 or 6 megahertz to work with. Assuming no more spectrum, can you render an opinion on how they can best utilize the resource? Is GSM 1800 their best system? It would seem to be CDMA with the GSM interoperability of the smartcards recently specified. What is it you think they'll do?
