JDN - re: insurance. Establish a sub-S corporation with you and your wife as officers or employees. It does not matter much what the company is chartered to do or if it makes much money, or any money. What matters is that you will be eligible for a small business group health policy. Sub-S losses are passed through to the owners, so in effect you get a tax deduction in addition to the more favorable group rates. There are some other benefits as well, including auto insurance and other potentially business related costs. Talk to your accountant about it... but you will probably end up with a good unrestricted family policy (i.e. any provider, not a network or HMO deal) for under $800 a month, all tax deductible. As with any amateur advice, get a good professional to advise you on how to actually do it.

Hewlett to supply 90 pct of Amazon.com's equipment
(http://biz.yahoo.com/rf/000531/n31693274.html)

"...She said Amazon would be moving from both Sun Microsystems Inc. (NasdaqNM:SUNW - news) and Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news) computers to HP systems, including desktop computers for employees and networks of powerful computers or servers to run Amazon's Web site..."

EKS

P.S. How do you define retirement? I think a better description is if you have reached "critical mass" and you can do what ever you want to do...everyday. I obtained critcal mass about five years ago (age 37) and have been doing everything I always wanted to do but I do not feel I am retired (perhaps my friends do). I am busier than ever, buying and selling real estate (i.e. foreclosures), researching new companies to invest in here in Silicon Valley, and most recently building a new addition on my home.

FWIW, I buy Kaiser's health plan which just went up to $143.00/month.

JDN, RE: Health Insurance; Contact your state health insurance department about health insurance. I think most states created state sponsored plans for residents following the Clinton Health Care deal a few years ago. Our Health Insurance Plan in Alabama (AHIP) is designed for people who have expired their Cobra coverage and can't find private alternatives due to health issues, etc.

Best,

Duncan
