Yes. I can see that. Valid points I guess.

Why, thank you! However, they are more than valid points. They are key to an open mind and understanding. You and I believe in and take as a given a benevolent and loving God. With this belief it is easy to dismiss the ugly moments in the Bible and the ugly moments in the history of the various Christian faiths.

However, if one comes to the Bible--especially the Old Testament--with the equivalent of a tabula rasa, the image of God is altogether different. It's of a capricious and mean bully who exacts unswerving devotion and seems to enjoy the blood of unbelievers. And the New Testament sometimes reads as a call to communism--note the lower case.

It is not a wonder to me that X might find this "God" a fancy with which she has no truck.
