Theodore White later regretted his role in that lie. Remember, JFK's administration was a bumble shoot - they were one crisis after another. Kennedy was behind Goldwater at the time he died. The apotheosis came after he died as part of the Kennedy PR machine and as part of the drive to pass every harebrained liberal scheme to the nation's continual regret.
