Korean mobile subscribers up 5% in April from 26.1MM to 27.52MM.Total expected to reach 28.5MM by year end.

Mobile phone subscribers top 27
million in April

The number of mobile phone subscribers in Korea reached
27.52 million as of the end of April, up 5.4 percent from 26.1
million at the end of March, the Ministry of Information and
Communication said yesterday.

Subscribers opting for wireless Internet service as well
surged 47.1 percent from 2.73 million in March to 4.02 million
in April.

SK Telecom had 11.93 million subscribers (43.3 percent)
and Shinsegi Telecomm, which has merged with SK Telecom,
4.03 million (14.6). Their combined market share was 57.9
percent.

Korea Telecom Freetel had 4.84 million subscribers (17.6),
LG Telecom 3.68 million (13.4) and Hansol M.com 3.05
million (11.1).

The number of mobile phone subscribers are expected to
reach 28.5 million by the end of this year, the ministry said.
