This is a really inadequate explanation ... not sure if i could give one, even if i wasn't in a hurry here ... to start with, the usage varies depending on which country you are in, and even which part of that country ... but the word is mexicano, above all ... in Costa Rica it can mean 'to shorten' [something], or 'to drink' ... have to go now, ­pos chin!, more later ... cheers

ps - in Cuba they use pinga in some of the same ways, i.e. 'que pinga esa mierda' - [gee that guy is not very nice, is he?] ... um, sort of -g-
