Advanced Micro's stock is the best performer in the Standard & Poor's 500 index this year, as the company rides a wave of demand for new products. After lagging rival Intel Corp. for years, Advanced Micro has leapt ahead with faster processors and won sales as a shortage of personal-computer chips left Intel racing to boost production.

Advanced Micro shares fell 3 9/16 to 81 7/16 on the New York Stock Exchange today. They've more than doubled this year. The Sunnyvale, California-based company's stock traded as high as 92 7/8 on May 5, and closed at 85 11/16 on May 12, the date that the filing stated the shares were expected to be sold.

Sanders sold 510,000 shares in option-related transactions in April for a total profit of $40.8 million, according to SEC filings.

Several other executives, including Vice Chairman Richard Previte, Chief Financial Officer Fran Barton and Executive Vice President of operations Eugene Conner, also filed to sell shares in May.
