hi mag,

while on the topic of norton utilities... i didn't see that you've run either windoctor or system check. have you done that?

and i did not see that you've tried speed disk (for defragging). it could be that our terminology is different for the same component.

for starters, make sure you're running the doctors i've noted above.

then i'd take a look at win98 system file checker. clickstream start|programs|accessories|system tools|system info|tools|system file checker (also then try registry checker on same tools menu).

maybe this will give us some clues or provide a repair.

good luck

:)

Having a problem with windows crashing on a regular basis.

I seen the word NORTON in your post. Make sure you do NOT have Norton Crash Guard on. That caused many of my crashes. in fact not one since I tossed Crash Guard. {Except those that resulted from my bad programming.. lol}

Windows crashing --- A wild shot...

Windows likes to manage your computer's power saving. So does your BIOS. Just imagine the hissy-fits these two get into behind the scenes. Try setting power management in your BIOS to off or disabled.

Cheers, PW.
