Stephan, from watching the trading patterns lately, i have the feeling that the gold stocks are regarded as a hedge against market uncertainty by many. imo most of the holders of gold stocks now are those that bought at relatively low prices, since the sector has been in the doldrums for so long. seems to me those have relatively little incentive to sell at this stage. if not for the very depressed levels at which gold stocks are trading i would be more worried that they might get dumped along with other stocks...but right now i tend to think it is more likely that they will trade inversely to the overall market.
