I wonder how little of Qualcomm's time and effort is now spent on electrical engineering ?

Jon.

Q's agreement to make IPR available on a non-discriminatory basis.

Hmmm. Still trying to get a "handle" on this.

The thread "skinney" on the Feb. China deal (as I understood it) was that Unicom had received a "sweatened" deal based in some way on performance. That would seem to imply some "wiggle room". Was this inaccurate? Was this possible because the performance was presumably not on 3G equipment or are there other "loopholes"? Sorry to be obtuse just trying to understand the "constraint limits".

For now I'll just ignore the case that could be made that the whole DS CDMA circus is a conspiracy to discriminate against Q.

Any clarification would be appreciated.

Hanging around...

AL, a few years ago, Harvey White talked about low single figures for 3G IPR royalty [which sounds like 2, 3 or 4%]. Now the figure seems to have fixed fairly firmly at 5% or maybe slightly more if the Korean figures are a guide.

It seems that Q! has strengthened their royalty position rather than weakened it over the years of 3G development.

Rightly so too!

PS: <...too many people became infatuated with the idea that "Qualcomm is God"... > Quite right too! People should keep their feet on the ground. Mighty Q! is NOT going to take over the universe for goodness sakes! Just the world and all mobile communications, both visual and aural. Plus a bit of the universe with Globalstar out there in space...
