As I said in a previous message, it's probably time for Chavez to hang 'em up. The trouble is that many fighters don't consider the longevity of their careers until it's impending. Among the crueler truths of boxing is that the last trait, the last skill, to leave a good fighter is his monster punch, and by the time he reaches a certain age, they're going into matches with nothing but the hope that they'll get an opening to throw their moneymaker into. (There are far too many hungry young fighters out there who'd love to flush an ex- or declining champ for that to be a viable strategy.)

That and the fact that some fighters just aren't as marketable - specifically from the likeable or comeliness points of view - as a guy like Delahoya is makes some guys want to fight, quite literally, until they can't.

Most fighters who stick around long enough will realize "can't" one way or the other. But with what may amount to unemployment (or some less glorious occupation) waiting, "shouldn't" is advice that all too often goes unheeded.
