Thank you for your insights. It's certainly true that a good understanding of the science and familiarity with the products gives one an edge in discerning or predicting the result of a Phase III trial. It seems to be self-evident that there is a greater potential for abuse in the biotech field because so many people outside the drug company are involved in clinical trials, physicians, nurses, technicians, clerical staff and support staff in hospitals and institutes.

My father's third wife, who died of brain cancer last year, took part in two clinical trials, and my father seemed to know a lot of gossip about how the trials were going.

I think part of it is just the fact that people in the medical profession like to help others, and sharing information is part of that culture. And, of course, doctors are always looking for a hot stock tip.<g>
