Tad, I try to get as bizarre as possible after closing hours and on weekends, what else coud I be?. I assume you are referring to the book "the Cathedral and the Bazaar, which I have not read, but whose title suggests a variegated market place versus a monopolistic(religious temple approach). There were several references findable, here is one tuxedo.org.
This suggests an Intel versus the AMD open bazaar approach as they try to maintain a closed monopoly and are forced into ever tighter circles, until finally they enter their own nether orifice, a safe haven from which to face the world.
I see you have not posted very often, but what you have posted has been good cogent commentary.

Now the network world....another bazaar with a few people wearing pointy hats.
I am sure you will pop up here from time to time.
If in Manhattan, make sure your company rents on a high floor, and keep a boat on the balcony...just in case.

Tad, good luck!

AMD will be married to network one way or another going forward, because "network is computer". I am in telecom/network business and very interested in the network stocks you cover.

Best wish!

Tad, best of luck in your new area. I expect your analyses will be as thought provoking there as they were in this one.

A.A LaFountain III

Thanks for your most informative (not to mention, on the money) contributions over the past year...

All the best in your new arena!

Tad,

<Outta here>

Thanks for all the posts over the last year so. Enjoyed it.

<Speaking of change, this morning I begin the process of passing over coverage of most of my semiconductor stocks to my colleague Dan Scovel as I shift my focus to networking. I have enjoyed the public and private exchanges with many of you and have been amazed at the collective intelligence of the participants - it's very clear that the bazaar beats the cathedral (for those of you not familiar with that reference, it's worth the effort to track it down).

It will be interesting to see how a "conservative" approach meshes with a sector like networking. In any event, I'm not ready to walk away from that "buy low, sell high" thing quite yet - it seems to have a certain innate appeal.>

Good luck to you on the networking stuff. I would be looking out for your research to see what other than 3Com may fit the "value" metric in your book. That sector needs a good analyst to bring some realism into valuations. May the force be with you ;-)

<Best of luck to all >

And to you too.

Chuck

I can live with that. After all, change is inevitable. Speaking of change, this morning I begin the process of passing over coverage of most of my semiconductor stocks to my colleague Dan Scovel as I shift my focus to networking

Tad,

Okay. So what's the next AMD of the networkers...FFIV or maybe TLGD?

In case you don't respond, I have really enjoyed everything you have had to say. I especially liked your call on the ugly twin, chipzilla.......avoid.....very original...a LaFountain classic?

Tad, Good luck with your new sector.

And it looks like Dan Scovel has adjusted Needham's target price for AMD? Wasn't Tad a little more conservative (ie. below $60 last time)? (Saw this reference over on AMDZone)

Tad,

Maybe you can suggest Dan Scovel to stop by here, and check on the latest news / rumors.

RE: "Thread: Outta here"

Tad,

Sorry to see this. Enjoyed the debates.

Re: I can live with that"

Especially since your original bullish call on AMD was good - you made this call back when AMD was low, when no other analyst would touch the stock, prior to the heights AMD is currently enjoying.

RE: "as I shift my focus to networking"

Maybe you'll be siding with Intel.

Re: "amazed at the collective intelligence of the participants - it's very clear that the bazaar beats the cathedral"

The Internet brings about community and collaborative sharing, which may exceed any isolated cathedral. I was glad your firm initially took the approach to allow postings, although, am sorry to see they backed off their original position which is counter to the Internet's collaborative trend. I would imagine competitiveness will mean incorporating some level of the Internet's collaborativeness, as oppose to isolation.

RE: "It will be interesting to see how a "conservative" approach meshes with a sector like networking"

Please remember that Cisco is the Goliath in the networking business, not your other favorite gorilla. Something to keep in mind.

RE: "In any event, I'm not ready to walk away from that "buy low, sell high" thing quite yet - it seems to have a certain innate appeal."

Best of luck to you in the networking business.

Tad,

I was wondering if you or your college Dan will be on the conference call with AMD. The question I have on my mind is the status of the DDR chipsets - 760 and 760 MP (single and dual processor). Could you ask about it?

Thanks

Joe
